Merging Clinical Research with Life-Changing Treatments
Get To Know Dr. Chris Filler
What made you want to become a Dentist?
Initially when I went off to college, I had no intention of becoming a dentist. I wanted to be involved in medical research and play a role in making ground-breaking discoveries. Although I loved the academic side of research, I found out quickly that it did not mesh with my personality. What I enjoy most about being a dentist is my ability to apply evidenced-based research to my everyday clinical treatment.
Why do you love working at Windham Family Dentistry?
Having grown up in Windham Family Dentistry as the son of the owner, so many hours were spent after school or in the summer filing away charts, developing radiographs and working sterilization. I realized quickly that our interactions with patients are not like that in a medical office and that we know our patients by their first names. The fact that I play a large part in not only maintaining healthy, confident smiles but also their overall health.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
There are many things I’m proud of in my career, but three stand out from the rest. I’m very proud of the 5 years my wife and I spent as active-duty dentists in the United States Army, especially the relationships we made along the way treating our Nation’s soldiers. Second, I’m grateful for having the ability to work alongside my wife Dr Caitlin Pyle, who is a pediatric dentist next door at Windham Kids Pediatric Dentistry. Lastly, I’m extremely proud of earning my Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Only 6% of General Dentists earn this distinction, which is meaningful to me, but being able to follow in my mother’s footsteps in this organization really means a lot.
